This double lesson introduces learners to the reality of business - that strategies fail at times. We start by looking at the decision making process of developing a strategy and identify reasons where failure can be rooted from in this process. We then look at the difference between a planned and emergent strategy as well as strategic drift. A video of real life business examples that drifted away from the environment such as Nokia and Kodak. We look at the divorce between ownership and control and the impact this can have on a businesses strategy. We look at the subjective nature of ‘success’ when evaluating the performance of a strategy. Importance of contingency plans, some true or false questions, research task, debate, box plenary and a kahoot quiz on topics from all of year 2 for the final lesson! Enjoy! This set of resources includes 3x PPTs which can be delivered over 4 lessons (over 100 slides of engaging and interactive learning) and 5x word files consisting of calculation practice questions and a group ratio analysis activity. We start by looking at how financial statements can help stakeholders make decisions before going into the four categories of ratio analysis (profitability, liquidity, gearing and efficiency ratios). In the first double lesson we focus on profitability and liquidity ratios. ROCE is looked at with broken down examples before recapping the GP and NP margin from Year 1 (so ALL ratios are covered). We then look at the current ratio and although the acid test ratio is not required in the AQA spec, students do have the opportunity to understand it here as it can help with evaluation arguments e.g. stock is not a very liquid asset all the time. In the third lesson we focus on gearing, again with broken downe examples and the interpretation of the figures, finally in the last lesson we focus on efficiency ratios of payables days, receivables days and inventory turnover. Lots of calculation practice in this bundle, two companies, JD and Royal Mail where students have the opportunity to carry out ratio analysis, research tasks, true or false questions, debates, kahoot quizzes and box plenaries included. This set of resources includes 1x PPTs which can be delivered over 2 lessons. 2x word files consisting of exam practice and activities… We introduce learners to labour productivity, turnover, unit labour costs, employee costs as a percentage of revenue. We start with looking at the formulas for each one, with broken down examples to illustrate the concepts. We look at a concise case study with some information on employees and productivity, using this students complete a calculation question along with group presentations on a 24 mark essay based question on labour rentention. After presentations, students can complete the 24 marker, or it could be completed for homework, structure and indicative points are provided to help with peer assesmeents. This is followed by another case study on a construction company, who do things differently, students explore, how they keep their productivity levels up, responses to this could be done in groups and fed back to the class, we finish with a box plenary. This set of resources can be delivered over 2-3 lessons and introduces learners to the various external sources of finance, building on from 2.1.1 internal finance. We start by recapping the reasons for finance, then go through each one with their pros and cons. A brief case study on Dr. Dre’s beats and share capital with a 4 mark question and model answer provided. We then go on to consolidating the knowledge with some matching and recall activities before a group activity, students are put into groups and given scenarios that require finance, students decide which sources of finance are most appropriate for scenario and present ideas back to class. Class then decides who the weakest link is (encouraging application and evaluation skills) A case study and 12 mark question on venture capital is included, structure guidance and a concise model answer is provided to help students develop their exam technique.
